Homey’s Adventures Too – Chapter 24 – Covid 19 Again

First and foremost, thank you to all who have read my past blog posts and my book, “Homey’s Adventures.”

As promised, I am continuing the series of all the chapters of my new book, “Homey’s Adventures Too.” I am now 71 and I decided that I did not want to spend my time haggling with editors, literary agents, and publishers. The main thing I am interested in is to write for your pleasure and mine. So, without further delay, here is Chapter 24:

Chapter 24 – Covid 19 Again

It is sad that I devoted so much of this book to this awful disease, but I was not alone in trying to cope the consequences of the Wuhan flu. I was hesitant for a long time about writing this chapter. I try not to be a victim and I do not like to complain.

As it turned out, I did get the Wuhan flu when I visited my dying mother. So, I was a victim of the disease. Sometimes we are victims whether we like it or not. For me, it was like a head cold. I get sinusitis easily. So, I took an antibiotic and Airborne, the immune support supplement. I waited two weeks and it was over. I first tested positive about a week and a half after my symptoms started. I followed quarantine for 13 days after that. I got tested again and I was negative.

A skeptic may say that the first test was a false positive and I never had the virus. I doubt this because everyone who visited my mom got sick and tested positive. We will never know where it came from. I think my mother had it, but she officially died of dementia. She was never tested, but some of her care givers also tested positive.

At the time of writing this, the Covid 19 vaccination was available. The plan was to vaccinate care givers first. I think that makes sense because they may be one of the biggest spreaders of the virus. My best friend Sherlock spent Christmas with his sister and her friends back in New Jersey. Unfortunately for Sherlock, her friends were health care workers. Sherlock got the China flu too.

I am a retired Actuary and I look at the infection rates and deaths by state about every day. My statistical conclusion is that it does not matter what kind of restrictions or precautions people have taken. Most people will eventually get Covid 19 either directly as I did or by vaccination.

A prime example for my conclusions is that California was the first state to start restrictions and California has the most infected people. It is the largest population state, and it makes sense that it has the most infections. It also common sense that the restrictions have done nothing to reduce the infections. In my prior chapter, I stated these suspicions and I have seen nothing that would alter my conclusions. In a recent study, researchers at Johns Hopkins University have concluded that lock downs have done little to reduce COVID deaths but have had “devastating effects” on economies and numerous social ills.

I thought that I would surely die if I got the virus. I had diabetes. I had only 70 percent lung capacity. I was over 65. As it turned out, I have had worse colds than the Wuhan flu.

During the first Covid crisis, New York and New Jersey were the states with the highest death rates. They are also the states that forced nursing homes to accept virus infected patients. California’s death rate is less than a third of New York’s. It is very ironic that Governor Cuomo of New York received an Emmy for his broadcasts of how New York was handling the virus. Apparently, there is a wrong way and a right way of talking about the virus. I suspect that this chapter will be deemed by many as the wrong way.

Bottom line for me was that Covid 19 was an obstacle to meeting my Xena. I believe what does not kill us makes us stronger. I also believe that going through the bad things gives us character and may bring us closer to God. My pastor said he agrees with me. I was stronger than I ever was before because I survived the virus. I was ready to see my Xena.
